SELF-IMPROVEMENT:
Why is it called Self-Improvement and not Self-Development?
Self-Development is necessary, however, Development means growth and not necessarily change, whereas, Improvement means a total change for the better, and that is the change that we are addressing with this program.
I. SELF-EXAMINATION:
This is the first stage at making a change in one’s life. To examine means to look closely or into as to determine what is the problem or what needs to be fixed. To explore this we must examine how we look at ourselves, not others, even if it is your spouse, brother, sister, or related persons. We must look at how we rate on the scale of strength where our endurance and will-power is concerned. This examination is two-fold, thus:
It brings one face to face with who they really are to self – not what one represents to others who don’t know the real person.Secondly, it exposes one to self with the hope that he/she will go and change the false image and bring out the true beauty of Who he/she really is by nature.
(A righteous and most powerful person). This examination begins when we are on the road of Self-Improvement or further advancement.II. SELF-ANALYSIS:
This is the second stage of our journey to change our lives, for the betterment of ourselves, our families, and our communities, and ultimately our nation. Analysis means the separating or breaking up of any whole into its parts so as to find out their nature, proportion, function and relationship. Therefore, we must break up the stages of self-analysis into three areas:
1. Birth
2. Adolescence
3. AdulthoodThen, present a statement of results of this process to ourselves after taking in the information through the process of examination. And finally, prepare our final stage in this introductory process.
III. SELF-CORRECTION:
This is the final stage of bringing everything that you will confess to yourself to the operating table called correction.Correction is the act of setting things in your life right according to a just standard as the truth, justice, or propriety, the correction of opinions or manners.
Correction is that which is substituted or suggested in the place of wrong. It will mean to us, an amendment, rectification and IMPROVEMENT. We will suggest solutions to correct the ills of self-hatred, inferiority complexes, superiority complexes, and disrespect among genders, teenage pregnancy, domestic violence and the use of foul language.
Finally, whatever the participants wish to discuss, so others may benefit from their input, as well as, gain a sense of personal upliftment.
IV. THE VOICE WITHIN:
This “voice” that we will speak of is the voice that talks to you when you go to the bathroom and you know that you should wash your hands. It is the same voice that speaks to you before you make a decision to do something. It is the first voice that you hear before you are ready to commit right or wrong. When you do wrong, you kill that voice with rebelliousness to corrective instruction. This voice is our own personal policeman, judge, and jury. Our opinions, thoughts and ideas affect every aspect of our lives and dealings with people and the society we live in.
We must awaken this voice and allow it to breathe and live, so that we may avoid and stay away from the things that will deteriorate our ability to overcome difficulties, handle mixed feelings and controversy, and the levels of improvement we will be discussing.
REMINDER:“Every day above ground is a blessed day -- Another day to solve a problem, another day to receive a blessing.”
